This is the earliest photograph of the exterior. It was taken in 1931. Sound had been installed in 1928. The large cutouts of "Old Stoneface," Buster Keaton, have just been installed by workmen using the ladders under the original marquee. Parlor, Bedroom and Bath is a very funny film. We'd love to show it at the restored Carolina Theatre!

Before neon became ubiquitous in the South, incandescent light bulbs were still used to illuminate letters in large signs. These brilliant bare bulbs fill in the word "Carolina" and surround its borders.
