Carolina Theatre closed for a two-week renovation to
install
Cinerama.
It reopened on Friday, December 22.
This deeply-curved widescreen format required an enormous
screen, larger than the proscenium. Sections of walls were removed, most
decorations were removed, walls were covered with curtains, many seats were
removed, the lobby was remodelled, the cast-iron ticket booth was
replaced.
