You Made A Difference

As a patron of the historic Redford Theatre, we hope you have enjoyed our classic movies, Barton organ overtures, and the beautiful, lovingly restored ambiance that simply cannot be duplicated at home or in a multiplex.

Originally built in 1928, the Redford Theatre was saved from destruction in 1977 by the hard work of many volunteers. We banded together as the Motor City Theatre Organ Society, took out a mortgage to buy the building, worked hard and have paid it off!

Since then, we have prided ourselves on our self-sufficiency. Most restoration work was done one paycheck at a time, the hard-working Detroit way. We earned money by creating and nourishing our classic film series and by selling family-priced concessions. In addition, your generous donations, both large and small, have also helped us operate and maintain the Redford Theatre with an all-volunteer staff. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Thousands of dollars have been collected at donation jars at our concessions, by our 'pagoda' donation box in the lobby, and by small and occasionally large donations from you, our members and patrons. Your contributions have added up and are visible in the restoration already completed throughout the theatre. Thanks again!

Phase One

In 2003, almost 10 years ago, we kicked off our first fundraising campaign to replace the theatre's deteriorated seats. We replaced over 1,100 seats on the main floor and lower balcony with brand-new replicas of 1928-vintage seats.

This project cost $270,000, and was funded by your contributions, helped by matching grants from the State of Michigan and area businesses.

Phase Two

Phase Two of the restoration took place in the Summer and Fall of 2013:

• Seats: The remaining 384 seats in the balcony were replaced with authentic replicas of the original theatre seats, to match the newer seats.
• Carpet: We replaced ALL the carpet in the public areas of the theatre.
• Wall Sconces: New wall sconces were custom-made and installed in the foyer of the theatre, replacing the 1960's vintage fixtures. 
• Parking Lots: Necessary repairs and enhancements were made to our theatre-owned parking lots.

You Can Make a Difference - Today

1) "Buy" a theater seat for $250.00 or more and have a brass plaque with your name or the name of someone you know and love installed on the seat. There are only a limited number of seats and once they are all used, this opportunity will never be available again!

2) Make a cash contribution. You can use PayPal or you can send a check for any amount to the Redford Theatre, 17360 Lahser Road, Detroit, MI 48219

3) You also can also make contributions anytime at the Concession Stand and at the 50/50 Ticket Counter by placing your gifts in one of the donation jars, or in the "Pagoda" in the middle of the lobby.

The Redford Theatre is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization under the IRS code, so your contributions qualify as
a tax deduction on your federal and state tax returns. There is still time to make a contribution for this year so
long as it is postmarked before midnight, December 31. Contributions over $1000.00 will get your name
installed on our Redford Theatre Donor Wall plus other benefits!

Your contributions will help us to finish renovation of the Ladies Lounge, heat the theatre during the winter,
rent films, and keep on with the always ongoing restoration of this treasure, just to name a few things. We are
an "all volunteer" organization, and our bills are considerable and constant, so if even all you do is buy a ticket to a film once in a while, we appreciate that. However, if you wish to do much more than that, we hope you will. It is only with your help that the Redford Theatre can continue to provide the entertainment value that you have come to expect from us.
