2:00 pm: Eighteenth Anniversary of the Manasota Theatre Organ Society.   Tom Hoehn will perform a mini-concert on the Forker Wurlitzer, followed by "open console."

Each evening after dark: Festival of Lights at Grace Baptist Church, supported by MTOS, with live performances on December 11, 12, 18, 19, 20 and possibly Christmas night.

Chapter meeting, with Larry Davis from Atlanta performing a mini concert.  Larry is a member of the Atlanta chapter of ATOS and has been playing for many years.  He has played the 4/42 Mighty Moller at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

Jim Riggs in concert, featured some phantom duets using Ampico reproducing arrangements with the piano and organ.
Wednesday, December 10, 2008   
Ken Double played for the opening night of the Festival of Lights (December 10-28, 2008) at Grace Baptist Church.  The concert was recorded and will be replayed throughout the season of the lights.  The 350,000 lights are controlled by Christmas music on a 20-minute program, repeating through the evening, beginning about 7:00pm each evening.  These are the lights and animation created by Chuck Pierson and displayed at his home for the past several years.  This year, he donated them to the church, where they will be displayed hereafter.

MTOS 16th anniversary celebration.  Dwight Thomas played a few selections for us in a cameo appearance.  The second part of the program was Norman Arnold narrating the events leading to the creation of the wonderful instrument we have today, and illustrated his presentation using the Forker Wurlitzer's reproduction ability to play selections from prior artists who have performed here.

We all enjoyed a 45-minute sit-down social hour with a very special birthday cake and other taste-treats.  Afterward, Dave Cogswell treated us to a lively, fun concert on the Wurlitzer.

WEDU-TV (PBS) was present to tape interviews with Dwight Thomas from the Roaring 20's Pipes and Pizza in Ellenton, FL, and with Rosa Rio of the historic Tampa Theater.  Then, we were treated to an hour-long program by Bill Vlasak, also of the Roaring 20's Pipes and Pizza; this was a chance for everyone to enjoy the new player system added to the church's Steinway Grand Piano which links it electronically to the keyboard of the Forker Wurlitzer.  The new combination is wonderful!

LaTerry Butler presented a "Jazzy Journey" featuring rarely-heard selections from some of the first African-American Broadway musicals and some tracing the development of jazz between New Orleans, Chicago and Harlem.

We all boarded a luxury motor coach and rode to hear Rosa Rio on the Wurlitzer pipe organ, performing with the silent film "It" starring Clara Bow.  Afterward, it was dinner and music at the Roaring 20s in Ellenton, Florida, than back home the same evening.
