THE FORTH 'RAILWAY' BRIDGE
A visit to the north side of the Forth Bridge at North Queensferry in April 2009

The train I arrived on, waiting to depart for Edinburgh and climb towards the Forth Bridge


The bridge is signalled for two-way working and has crossovers at both ends for
returning to the correct line of travel. Line speed is 50 mph for passenger trains
and 20 mph for freight. The 20 mph sign seen on the right is for travelling in the
wrong side direction. Note the direction indicator at the top of the backfacing
signal, which is for trains traveling in the wrong diection to cross over to the correct
direction through the crossover and to the righthand track (Down Main).
