Donnie Rankin

Donnie was introduced to the theatre organ at the age of three. He often tried playing his grandfather’s home organ, then in 2000 his own organ was bought and tuition began. Two years of home organ lessons and then on to classical piano by 2005. Winning the title of ‘The American Theatre Organ Society’s Young Theatre Organist of the Year’ in 2007, Donnie began studying theatre organ in earnest under the tutelage of Jelani Eddington. Since then he has performed all across the country on numerous occasions.

Donnie was also very involved with his high school band, receiving the Melissa Strasser First Chair award in 2005 and 2006 and the John Phillip Sousa award in 2007. He held the position of drum line captain and was Senior Lieutenant in the high school band council; played lead pan and drum set for three years in Ravenna High’s steel band and played the drum set for four years in the Jazz Band.

His experience with many instruments reflects in his deft mastering of theatre organs new to him. The Riviera looks forward to his return to North Tonawanda.
