SUNDAY FEBRUARY 19 at
2.pm —
Friends of the Wurlitzer “Club
Afternoon”
Once again, we launch our 2012
concert season with a fun afternoon of music and entertainment. The afternoon will include a video
presentation, light afternoon tea and music from our own playing team at the Wurlitzer
organ. This is not a public event – FOTW
members only and friends are very welcome too.

SUNDAY MARCH 11 at 2pm – Chris
Powell (UK)
What better way to start our 2012
season of shows, than with the welcome return of one of the Hollywood
Cinema’s most popular artists – Chris Powell. With several years
as a member of the Blackpool Tower Ballroom team of organists, Chris brings
some of the key elements of playing for dancing to his shows. Of course, a favourite for many is the
spectacular keyboard-to-keyboard water-falling, synonymous with the Blackpool style of playing the theatre
organ and best described as “organ console gymnastics”! Always a
pleasure to welcome Chris back for a fun-filled and very lively afternoon of
music.
SUNDAY APRIL 29 at 2.pm – “THE
SOUNDS OF SILENTS” with Ron Clark
The first of our two silent movie
shows for 2012 features Hollywood Cinema “House Organist” Ron
Clark, bringing the silent screen to life as he accompanies the classic 1921
Charlie Chaplin comedy “The Kid”.
The little Tramp stumbles over a
baby boy in the street, unwilling to get involved at first, he just cannot
ignore the baby’s smiling face and finally adopts the boy. Five years
pass, and the child becomes the Tramp's partner in minor crime, throwing
stones to break windows that the Tramp can then repair. Then the boy’s
Mother finds him and the fun begins!
A
great afternoon of entertainment with a play-in from the Wurlitzer organ,
movie “shorts” in the first half and then the main feature, the
silent movie, accompanied by the Wurlitzer organ.

Concert
Hollywood Cinema organist Ron
Clark hosts an afternoon of musical variety with talented local artists.
Program includes two short silent
movie comedies accompanied by the Wurlitzer organ.

SUNDAY JULY 29 at 2pm
Jonas Nordwall (USA)
Making his
very first trip to New Zealand is one of the United States’ leading exponents of the
theatre organ art form. Jonas Nordwall is an internationally renowned virtuoso organist
equally skilled in both traditional classical and modern/popular schools of
musical performance. Hollywood Cinema
audiences are in for a great musical experience when Jonas rises up at the
Hollywood Wurlitzer console to bring us an afternoon of music from the great
American Songbook – Broadway to Irving Berlin and much more!!

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 23 at 2pm
Scott Harrison (AUS) together with
Lex Pistols – Auckland’s authentic
Dixieland Jazz Band
Melbourne’s Scott Harrison is one of Australia’s younger generation of keyboard artists and is making a welcome
return to the Hollywood Wurlitzer to once again join forces with Lex Pistols for another fun afternoon of “Dixie” music.
In previous years we have featured
a big swing band and a 1920s band with the Wurlitzer organ, now it’s
time to enjoy the toe-tapping music of a Dixieland
jazz band. Lex Pistols have been on the Auckland music scene now for over 25
years, being featured at jazz music festivals and corporate functions. The
laid-back and lively style of Dixieland jazz was much enjoyed last year when
Scott and this great little band teamed up for the first time. In the words
of that great jazz standard – “Is it true what they say about Dixie?”…. well join us
on September 23rd and find out – you sure won’t be
disappointed!
SUNDAY OCTOBER 14 at
2pm “THE
SOUNDS OF SILENTS
Here comes the second of our
two special silent movie shows, where we take you back to the golden days of
going to the movies. The program
includes a “play-in” by the Wurlitzer organ, early sound movie
shorts and in the second half, Ron Clark accompanies another great silent
movie comedy. See and hear how the Wurlitzer organ brings the silent movie to

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 11,
at 2pm — David Wickerham
(USA)
Back in 2003 this great theatre
organ entertainer from the USA came our way for the very first time. Our audience that afternoon thrilled to
David’s fun and toe-tapping choice of music with two encores being
demanded from David before they let him go!!
Once again, David Wickerham is to whisk an Auckland audience into a
frenzy with another program of popular and lively music on the
Wurlitzer pipe organ. What better way to conclude our 2012 “Pops on
Pipes”!!
