ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

From: Glen Twamley, February 2004

Basically, the Wurlitzer was removed from the Palace Theatre in 1958.

It was installed at the Thomas Peacocke School (now called Thomas Peacocke Community College) in Rye, East Sussex, England.

During the late 60's and 70's its condition deterioriated due to lack of use.

In the 1980's a new Chemistry teacher joined the school who has an interest in organs. He did his best to make the Wurlitzer playable again. He left the school in the early 1990's, at which time a new group "Friends of Rye's Wurlitzer" was formed.

Concerts have been held regularly ever since. With the money raised, the organ has been returned to its original specification, with the addition of a new relay and MIDI interface.

The club and some photos can be found at: Friends of Rye Wurlitzer
