From: Chas Girdwood, February 2002
My business used to take me down to the South West in the early
nineties and was very excited when I got the chance to visit Beer and
play the Wurlitzer as I'd heard some earlier recordings of Ena Baga
playing that instrument. That excitement was short-lived!!!!
The organ is in the Congregational Church and was in a pretty sorry
state when I saw it. Nothing worked very well but some work was
being done including a lot of (gash) rewiring of console looms. The
man responsible was George Metters but from the recent
correspondence it looks as if he succumbed to a losing battle. Pity, as
it looks as if the last ten years have been wasted down there.
